Calorie Estimator is a simple dashboard that helps you monitor your calorie balance throughout the day. It's designed specifically for Apple Watch users, and reads information from Apple Health, showing the gap in real-time as you move, exercise, and log meals*.
Active energy from healthkit is split into two fields to give you a complete picture of your daily energy expenditure:
Everyday Movement - Calories burned from daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, and general movement. It is automatically tracked throughout the day by your Apple Watch and calculated by adding up all active calories, that aren't linked to a workout.
Workouts - Dedicated exercise sessions recorded on your Apple Watch or compatible fitness app. It should automatically sync after each completed workout and calculated by adding up all the active calories burned during a workout.
Custom BMR - Supply a static number for the app to smooth out over a 24hr period, to be displayed in place of the resting calorie figure provided by your watch.
Display Offsets (coming soon) - Apply percentage offsets up to 20% in any direction for calories consumed, resting calories, everyday movement and workouts. This is read-only and only affects the figures displayed in app, but is designed to help compensate for potential over or under-estimation. All adjustments are clearly shown alongside the original figures.
This works best with Apple Watch, which automatically syncs calorie data to Apple Health throughout the day, multiple times per hour, and directly after workouts. If you wear multiple devices, ensure your Apple Watch is set to the highest device priority for both active and resting calories in Apple Health.
The performance of this app is not guaranteed if you wear a device manufactured by another company. In my personal testing, some manufacturers may choose to automatically sync with Apple Health at the end of the day. That means information will not flow automatically throughout the day, and you need to perform a manual sync before up-to-date information is available in Apple Health, and visible in this app. Workouts may also take some time to transfer from your manufacturer's app, to Apple Health after a manual sync, in some cases taking up to 15 minutes. Check how frequently your device saves data to resting and active calories in Apple Health to determine whether this app is right for you.
The food tracker you use must sync calorie data to Apple Health to appear in this app.
